with Richard Quick, former Auburn University Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach; former Stanford University Head Women's Swimming Coach, 3X Olympic Coach, 12 NCAA Team Championships, 5X NCAA Coach of the Year and Milt Nelms, World-renowned coach, clinician, and artist/illustrator.
The Championship Winning Swimming Series with Richard Quick is built upon the principles of Posture, Line and Balance or "Inside/Out" (body core/extremities) philosophies pioneered by one of the world's leading stroke technicians, Bill Boomer. In this swimming DVD, Coach Quick and Milt Nelms present and expand upon the foundations of Posture, Line and Balance that they have successfully implemented at Stanford that apply to all phases of competitive swimming. Nelms starts this information-packed video with a classroom presentation enhanced with remarkable illustrations that clearly lay out the theories that justify teaching, coaching and swimming using the PL& B concepts. Next, Quick takes you on-deck where he explains concepts and demonstrates techniques for achieving proper body positions that can be transferred into the pool. Quick follows with a pool session of drill progressions divided between long and short axis swimming concepts. He begins with the basics of teaching a swimmer to achieve and feel what nis/her own balance point is in the water and progresses to attaining posture, line and balance in proper swimming positions. This video provides the essential information that is the core of the entire Championship Winning Swimming Series.

In Underwater Swimming - The Fifth Competitive Stroke, Richard Quick discusses the fact that in many competitive races today, up to 60% of the race can be done underwater! Quick presents drills and skills that will equip you to take your swimmers' underwater capabilities to a new level. This video begins with Coach Nelms in the classroom, explaining with fantastic illustrations just how Posture, Line and Balance are factors in wall push-off set-ups for successful underwater swimming by learning to utilize what he calls the "Power Triangle." In the pool, Quick shares Posture, Line and Balance skill development of body undulation on the front, side, and back positions. He continues with incorporating these skills into drills that are designed to teach swimmers how to successfully use body undulation in their push-offs through full stroke breakouts for fly, back and free. Quick also shares the nuances of "fish swimming," and how to apply it to fly, back and free and then demonstrates the use of several pieces of training apparatus including: Front snorkel, monofin, short fins. Excellent instruction!

Swimming Faster The Auburn Way: Training & Race Strategies Series
with Richard Quick, Auburn University Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach; former Stanford University Head Women's Swimming Coach, 3X Olympic Coach, 12 NCAA Team Championships, 5X NCAA Coach of the Year and Milt Nelms, World-renowned coach, clinician, and artist/illustrator.
Championship Winning Breaststroke opens with a thorough on deck demonstration of the basics of the stroke specifically showing how Posture, Line and Balance concepts align with the nuances of the breaststroke. In the classroom, Coach Nelm's illustrations of Bill Boomer's "inside/out" theories (core first, extremities last) paint a vivid conceptual picture of the Posture, Line and Balance concepts. In the pool, Quick teaches and coaches drill progressions that will enable a balanced rhythmical breaststroke. The drills/progressions are categorized as: Balance/Undulation Drills - learning/feeling balance above & below the line; Cobra Drills - proper hip movement necessary; Kick Drills - proper kicking technique, stroke timing and conditioning; Wall Drills - incorporate Posture, Line and Balance concepts into the long pull or pullout. All demonstrations are greatly enhanced with the inclusion of both above-water and underwater footage. Championship Winning Breaststroke is the most comprehensive breaststroke instruction available anywhere.
with Richard Quick, former Auburn University Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach; former Stanford University Head Women's Swimming Coach, 12 NCAA Team Championships, 5X NCAA "Coach of the Year"
Richard Quick's key to swimming championship breaststroke is to swim a stroke that is "forward focused." Utilizing younger swimmers as his demonstrators, Quick's initial focus is that of establishing the proper balance and position of the body in the water, Quick thoroughly explains the full arm motion for the stroke. In addition, he shares drills and strategies that keep the pull in front of the shoulders and deliver a fast hand recover. His arm pull drills teach you to accelerate the body in a forward motion, rather than up and down. Quick then turns his attention to adding the kick to accelerate the body forward. He emphasizes positioning the knees to be in line with the body, rather than pulled up underneath the body--a common error with many breaststrokers. To assure a swimmer of achieving an efficient, rhythmical breaststroke, Quick reviews the full stroke emphasizing the proper timing of the pull, breath and kick. A segment detailing the breaststroke pull-out highlights a critical technique in becoming a champion breakstroker!
with David Marsh, 8 X NCAA Coach of the Year, 12 X NCAA Championships at Auburn; 2 X Olympic Coach, Head Coach, Mecklenburg Aquatic Club of North Carolina
For Coach David Marsh, fast breaststroke swimming requires balance, timing, and developing a strong kick. Beginning on deck with Olympian Mark Gangloff, Marsh shares techniques and tips for developing and understanding the breaststroke kick. In the water, Marsh begins with setting the body position for the stroke with the kick and then moves into the pull instruction, sharing a series of sculling drills that will help you develop a feel for the simplicity and efficiency involved in the ideal pull pattern for the stroke. Marsh then adds breathing and timing to the stroke while sharing invaluable tips as to how to incorporate the proper breathing timing and technique into the stroke. Like the butterfly stroke, the most successful breaststroke swimmers have adopted a style of breaststroke that is a flatter and more forward focused stroke. In this DVD, Marsh will give you the tools necessary to implement the latest innovations for fast breaststroke swimming.

with Frank Busch University of Arizona Head Coach; 2X NCAA Championship Coach; 5 X NCAA Coach of the Year, 10 X Pac Ten Coach of the Year; and the Arizona Coaching Staff
Coach Frank Busch begins with an on-deck overview of the components of successful breaststroke before moving his instruction into the water. With demonstrator Amanda Beard, Busch shares several drills along with a full stroke review that emphasize the importance of the line and timing of the stroke. Coach Demont shares a series of seven sculling drills and variations that isolates and emphasizes each segment of the pull and concludes with drills that put the sculling segments together into a complete breaststroke pull. Augie Busch's segment isolates kicking technique with drills that focus on a swimmer's ability to "grab water" with the kick. Greg Rhodenbaugh shares timing drills designed to emphasize a flat, forward focused and fluid stroke along with instruction of the breaststroke pullout, including two variations of incorporating the dolphin kick into the pullout. This DVD provides a unique look at a realistic cross-section of demonstrators, each with different strength areas in their particular stroke, that show how the important components of the stroke can be utilized on an individual basis. After each segment, the demonstrator swims a set of 4 X 25's descending from easy to fast, giving a look at the efficiency of a variety of styles. All demonstrations include above water, underwater and slow motion footage.
